The list of vehicles names the top choice for consumers in each model level while considering safety, handling, design, comfort, design, and value.  The team of experts from both organizations test-drove each of the new 2018 vehicles for over 3,000 miles of test track and normal roads. 7 Tips for a Healthy Heart During American Heart Month - 02/14/2018

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the country and throughout the world, according to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). So with February being American Heart Month, we've compiled a list of 7 tips for a healthy heart that will help you to live a long, full life for yourself, family, and loved ones. Read on to learn more about healthy habits that will decrease your risk of heart disease and stroke.

7 Tips for a Healthy Heart During American Heart Month

    1. Eat Healthier

There are a variety of aspects to eating healthier in order to benefit your heart health. Including:
    • Generally, you should be eating fresh fruit, lean proteins, raw nuts, and complex whole grains.
    • Eating at least 30g of fiber every day will help lower your risk of heart disease. You can fiber from a variety of sources including wholemeal bread, bran, oats, wholegrain cereals, potatoes with their skins on, and vegetables.
    • Avoid salt to help maintain healthy blood pressure levels and therefor your cardiovascular health. Use less in your cooking at home, and avoid pre-made packaged food with high sodium labels. You can check the nutrition labels to make a food you're consuming isn't over 200 mg per serving.
    • Reduce the amount of food you eat that contains high saturated fat levels because it increases your cholesterol, negatively affecting your heat. Stick to leaner cuts of meat and lower-fat dairy products like 1% fat milk.
    • Avoid refined and processed sugar. Instead treat yourself to natural and high-quality sweeteners such as honey, dark chocolate, and maple syrup. Everyone's favorite drinks such as soda, juices, energy drinks, and coffee are some of the biggest culprits of excessive sugar intake in our diets, so try to reduce or eliminate your intake.

    2. Quit Smoking

Avoiding tobacco and quitting smoking is one of the best ways to keep your heart healthy. Smoking increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases because it damages the lining of your arteries, allowing fatty material to build up and narrowing the artery. This can lead to coronary heart disease and stroke. Quitting can be tough, but its extremely important to do so for your long-term heart health. So start today, and quit smoking!

    3. Reduce Your Alcohol Intake

In addition to its other various negative consequences to your body, alcohol, especially beer, contains a lot of calories. Regular or binge drinking can make you gain a lot of weight, causing issues with your heart health and circulation. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), adult men should consume no more than four drinks in one day, and no more than 14 drinks in a week. For adult women, they should consume no more than three drinks in a day and no more than seven drinks in a week.

    4. Stay Clean

You wouldn't think so, but cleanliness and personal hygiene is extremely important when it comes to heart health. Make sure to brush your teeth, wash your hands, and bathe each day to stay clean and to protect your body from the flu, germs, and other bacteria which can cause heart-damaging infections. We also recommend washing any fresh foods and cleaning/disinfecting your cooking and meal prep surfaces before you begin cooking.

    5. Work Out

A regular work out routine including weight lifting and cardiovascular exercise, of at least 30-minutes each day, can have a huge positive impact on your heart health. Working out is especially important if you’re overweight or have a history of heart disease in your family. Start slow, and work your way up to a sweat-inducing workout regime!

    6. Destress

Stress is a killer. Stress causes your body to release adrenaline, causing your breathing and heart rate to speed up and your blood pressure to rise. Stress will likely also make you revert to harmful behavior such as smoking cigarettes, overeating, and not exercising which all is detrimental to your heart health. So each day or whenever you feel the need, take a moment to relax and unwind. Breathing exercises are a great way to destress, or taking a long solitary walk will help calm your nerves and lower your pulse and blood pressure.

    7. Get Sleep

It is extremely important to get getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep a night. Sleep is when your body recovers each day and builds its strength back up. So, this winter is not the time to be staying up late and not getting your rest. Shortened sleep can also increase CRP, or C-reactive protein, which is released with stress and inflammation, and increase insulin resistance, a risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. So getting quality, uninterrupted sleep each night is very important and should not be dismissed or ignored.

So make sure to follow these 7 tips for a healthy heart during American Heart Month and throughout the rest of your life. For more information on heart disease, how you can reduce your risk, and much more, we recommend consulting the American Heart Association website. This time of year, it's also important to look after the health of your vehicle. Complete our Winter Car Care maintenance routine to ensure your sedan, truck, or SUV's internal components don't get worn down, broken, or disabled by the cold weather or poor road conditions.

Auto Service Valentines Day Gifts for Your Car - 02/08/2018

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– As Valentines Day approaches, and you prepare to celebrate with your sweetheart, you'll need cards, flowers, chocolates, and all of the usual gifts. But, have you thought about what to get your car? Right, we know it may seem silly to get your car a Valentines Day gift, but think of all that your sedan, truck, or SUV does for you, especially this time of year during the harsh winter weather! Show your car some love by taking care of it with these auto service Valentines Day gift ideas!

Auto Service Valentines Day Gifts for Your Car

    Car Detailing/Car Wash

Throughout the winter, your vehicle is subjected to slush, mud, and corrosive road salt that will damage your paint job and rust out the undercarriage. Regular car washes and detailing will protect the integrity of your vehicle's exterior and keep it looking as good as the day you bought it. Show your vehicle you car about it and get it washed and waxed on Valentines Day.

    Wiper Blade Replacement

With all the ice that builds up on your windshield and wiper blades during the winter, they are likely to break down from wear and tear. When they do break or tear, your wiper blades won't be able to effectively keep your windshield clear and clean while you're driving, which is important to your safety. If you're in need, stop into our service department to get your windshield wipers replaced today.

    Floor Mats

To help your vehicle stay clean, we recommend purchasing a set of Weather Tech Mats for Valentines Day. Weather Tech Mats are the top product for catching and containing all the snow and such that clings to your boots when you enter a vehicle during the winter. Allowing this snow and slush to soak into your floor carpet will allow the corrosive road salt in the slush to cause unsightly stains and corrode the metal floor underneath the carpet.

    Portable Hand Vacuum

To keep your interior clean and tidy, consider purchasing a handheld vacuum for your car. A clean car will just plain feel better, and keep your car looking as brand new as the day you first bought it!

    Oil Change

When's the last time you got an oil change? We hope it wasn't too long ago, as it is critically important to your vehicle to get an oil change every 3,000–5,000 miles. Bring your vehicle into our Graff Mt Pleasant Service Department for an oil change this month, that way your car, truck, or SUV will run better and you won't have to worry about your engine overheating and warping internal components.

    Winter Car Care

While winter continues to blanket Michigan in snow and ice, it's important to protect your vehicle and its internal components from the freezing temperatures and poor road conditions. Our Winter Car Care maintenance routine includes inspecting your tires, brakes, battery, and more to make sure your vehicle handles well on the icy roads and doesn't break down or become disabled out in the cold.

    Spring Care Care

Once winter comes to an end, which thankfully isn't too far off, completing your Spring Car Care maintenance routine will be important. The toll winter has taken on your vehicle will be significant and to avoid further damage and get your vehicle running in top condition, you should bring it into our service center to get its alignment and suspension adjusted, fluids refilled, and much more. Pamper your car so that its ready to shine come springtime!

    Graff Mt. Pleasant Service Coupons

You can save big on necessary repairs or routine maintenance this season by downloading our service coupons off of our website! We've got deals on batteries, brake pad installation, and more.

Chevrolet Impresses at the 2018 North American International Auto Show - 01/25/2018

MT. PLEASANT, Mich., –– The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is being held in Detroit from January 20th through the 28th to delight of gearheads everywhere. All of the foreign, domestic, and Detroit-based auto dealers will be unveiling 2018 (and future) models vehicles, concepts, and auto experiences to give fans a look at what they can expect in the new year. Chevrolet always had strong showings at NAIAS, taking home North American Car of the Year honors for the 2018 Chevy Bolt EV last year, and so far 2018 has not been a disappointment. Chevy has wowed and impressed fans and auto show attendees alike at NAIAS by unveiling the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500, hosting a virtual reality vehicle testing experience, and showcasing new 2018 Colorado, Cruze, Camaro, Corvette, and Spark models.

Unveiling the 2019 Chevy Silverado at NAIAS

Chevrolet had originally given a sneak peek of the 2019 Silverado to its Truck Legends program members at the Chevy Truck Centennial Celebration recently but has since introduced the latest iteration of America's most dependable, longest-lasting pickup to the public at NAIAS. The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is exceptional and designed with special attention to creating a tough, powerful, and capable truck. The new Silverado is up to 450 pounds lighter than previous models for improved performance and fuel economy and its 8 specialized trim levels are powered by six engine/transmission options. These options include the all-new Duramax 3.0L inline-six diesel and new 5.3L and 6.2L V-8s with industry-first Dynamic Fuel Management. The new 2019 Silverado also boasts best-in-class cargo volume in every bed length, with the short-box offering 63 cubic feet of volume, up to 20 percent more than a competitor’s short-box.

The 2019 Silverado will also have plenty of impressive technology and design features to improve the driver experience, including an available class-exclusive power up/down tailgate that can be operated from the key fob, interior button or by hand. Also, to honor its 100-year heritage, the “CHEVROLET” name stamped on the tailgate similar to the iconic Chevy trucks of the 1950s and ‘60s.

Chevrolet Impresses at the 2018 North American International Auto Show

    Experience Virtual Reality Vehicle Testing

Those in attendance at NAIAS can experience what its like to ride along in a new Chevy on vehicle testing runs. The Chevrolet Virtual Dynamics Lab is a 4-D virtual reality experience that offers a 360-degree, front seat passenger ride through a variety of courses including gravel roads, extreme temperature labs and rock climbs that you would find at GM’s testing facilities, such as the Milford Proving Ground. Chevrolet has an unwavering commitment to designing high-quality vehicles for its customers and has them tested in chambers capable of simulating extreme environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, altitudes, humidity, and wind speeds in addition to their miles and miles of road testing. This virtual reality experience is a chance for Chevrolet to show its customers the various rigors that they put their vehicles through in order to produce the best sedans, trucks, and SUVs out on the road.

The Chevrolet Virtual Dynamics Lab 4-D experience will be open during normal hours on public show days.

Chevrolet Impresses at the 2018 North American International Auto Show

Chevrolet has done above and beyond to impress this year at the North American International Auto Show, proving that the future is very bright for the Detroit-based automotive company. If you can make it, we highly recommend experiencing the NAIAS for yourself before it ends. However, if you don't have the time for a trip down to the Cobo Center but would still like to still get a look at some of the new 2018 Chevy models being showcased at the auto show, you can do so right here at Graff Chevrolet in Mt. Winter Car Care and Routine Maintenance Tips From Graff Mt Pleasant - 01/13/2018

MT. PLEASANT, Mich., –– Winter in Michigan is about as harsh on your car as anywhere in the country! Freezing cold temperatures, icy roads, and corrosive road salt are among the many elements of winter's assault on your vehicle's performance and your safety on the road. The problem with the inclement weather in Michigan isn't just that it's tough to handle but also that it's unpredictable and can come at any time. So there is no "safe" time during the winter months to put off maintenance on your vehicle. Most of its components will be adversely affected by the cold temperatures and snowfall. We at Graff Chevrolet and Graff Buick GMC Cadillac of Mt. Pleasant want to keep you safe out on the road during this season, and that starts with providing superior service and information on the vehicle components that are the most critical to your vehicle's ability to handle the cold weather and the slippery and unforgiving driving conditions. By reading our Winter Car Care and routine maintenance tips from Graff Mt. Pleasant, you can learn how to keep yourself safe and your vehicle in proper working condition throughout the snowy months.

    Winter Car Care vehicle components:

    • Tires - Perhaps the most critical piece to keeping your vehicle in control on snowy, slushy, slippery roads. Read our tire pages to learn how not only wear, but tire inflation and pressure can seriously affect your driving capability and handling and why upgrading to a set of winter tires may just be the best course of action.
    • Batteries - Cold temperatures slow the chemical reaction in your battery which creates the energy needed to start your vehicle, and could leave you unable to turn your car on. Additionally, if your battery is old it will have an even tougher time getting going on a chilly morning. Our experienced technicians run a simple diagnostic test to see if it's time to get a new battery to help brave the freezing temps.
    • Brakes - You never want to be the car that slides into the ditch on the side of the road, or into an intersection. Get your brakes checked and replaced at our Graff Mt. Pleasant Service Center to ensure that you have the proper stopping capability.
    • Oil Changes - In general, your oil needs to be changed regularly. But like your battery, your vehicle's oil is greatly impacted by cold temperatures, making it less effective at keeping your engine components from overheating and warping.
    • Wiper Blades - Your ability to see the road in front of you is crucial this time of year, especially if snow or other precipitation is falling. Your safety is too important to try and make it through the winter with a set of wiper blades that are broken or not functioning properly.

So make your safety on the roads this winter your highest priority by completing your Winter Car Care routine at Graff Mt. Pleasant. Learn which components are most important, need upkeep, and how to tell from home that they are in need of replacement. Or, schedule your appointment today to meet with ASE Certified technicians at Graff Chevrolet or Graff Buick GMC Cadillac!

Winter Driving Tips to Keep You Safe - 12/21/2017

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Michigan winters can be quite perilous and create dangerous roads for drivers of all experience levels. While there's no real way to avoid driving until springtime, you can follow a few rules and suggestions to keep yourself out of harm's way on the road. So read our winter driving tips to keep you safe this year!

Winter Driving Tips to Keep you Safe

    Clean Off Your Vehicle

Before you even start driving, it is extremely important to clean all the snow and ice off of your vehicle's windshield, windows, headlights, and brake lights. Clear visibility while driving is crucial to your safety while driving out on winter roads and to the safety of other drivers. We can't tell you how often we see somebody trying to drive to work in the morning while looking through a tiny little hole they cleared in the ice on their windshield. Simply put, that is not safe, and you should never do it. Take the time to clear off your windshield and other windows.

    Drive Slowly

May seem like a no-brainer, but driving slow is the number one way to stay safe on the roads this winter. It allows you to have more time to brake, react to other vehicles, and will lessen the impact of any uncontrolled steering.

    Give More Space Between Vehicles

This tip is under the same category as driving slower, but it is uniquely important all the same. Allowing for double or even triple the amount of distance you would normally give between you and the vehicle in front of you is important on snowy roads. In fact, the recommended that the normal dry pavement following distance of three to four seconds should be increased to eight to ten seconds in snowy conditions. The added space allows you more time to react to their movements and stop if need be.

    Don't Brake Abruptly

Putting your foot down hard on the brake pedal is not a wise choice this winter. Instead, if you need to stop, slowly apply the brake. This way your wheels will slow their rotation in a controlled manner before coming to a complete stop. A hard stop will make your tires lose their grip on the road and slip.

    No Sharp Turns

Make slow, wide, and deliberate turns on poor road conditions to maintain control of your vehicle. Sharp or fast turns through intersections or elsewhere can cause your vehicle to fishtail, swinging the back of the car out of control.

    Do Not Use Cruise Control

Cruise control is normally a helpful tool, but it can be extremely dangerous to use during winter. Let's say you're driving on the highway or just a normal road with cruise control activated. If your vehicle slides on some ice, slush, or snow and your wheels may be facing a different direction. The cruise control will then keep you acceleration on your new, accidental path potentially hurdling you into off the road, into a ditch, or maybe even into oncoming traffic.

    Winter Car Care

The best way to ensure your vehicle is up to the task of winter driving is by completing our Winter Car Care maintenance routine. During freezing temps your vehicle's internal components can become compromised, crack, break, or become disabled. It's also important to get your vehicle's battery, tire pressure and tread, heating, and other components before the winter fully sets in.

    Watch the Weather

Keep an eye on the weather channel or other meteorology services for what is headed your way. If possible, it is always advisable to avoid driving during snowstorms or in other poor road conditions.

    Practice in a Parking Lot

The best way to become comfortable and skilled at winter driver is to practice. Find an empty parking lot with some snow and ice that you can practice turns, braking, and more so that you're prepared for anything out on the road.

Stay safe this winter by following our driving tips to let your vehicle handle best on the snow and ice while avoiding any accidents. If you're worried about you and your passenger's well being out on the road, in general, we recommend reading up on Chevrolet's new advanced safety features available on most new 2018 Chevy models. Features like the Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist Technology, Forward Safety Awareness, and more can help make driving a much safer and more relaxing endeavor.

This Chevy Truck Has over 1 Million Miles on Its Odometer! - 12/15/2017

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Chevy trucks have built an incomparable legacy of dependability and toughness over the past 100 years. If you head down to Corsicana, Texas, you'll find a 1973 Chevrolet C10 454 that sets a new high watermark for vehicle longevity. Danny Hudson, the proud owner of this Chevy truck, has put over 1 million miles on its odometer. You read that right, 1 million miles.

This Chevy Truck Has over 1 Million Miles on Its Odometer!

This incredible feat was not without plenty of hurdles along the way though. Hudson has had to repair some things over the years, and even put in a few new engines, including at one point, a Corvette 427 with three double-barrel carbs. Thankfully Hudson is no stranger to a working under the hood and does all the work on the truck himself. He is ASE certified and a GM Master Tech.

“Things are gonna break,” says Hudson. “I just fix it as it needs it.”

What makes this truck's legendary odometer even more amazing is that Hudson hasn't regularly driven the C10 since 1999. His day-to-day ride ever since is a 2000 Chevy Silverado, with, unsurprisingly, a half-million miles on it.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Chevrolet truck ever produced, Chevy created their Truck Legends program, a fun club of sorts that recognizes and rewards Chevy truck owners with more than 100,000 miles on the odometer or customers who have purchased or leased one or more new Chevy trucks in their lifetime. Danny Hudson and his C10 certainly qualify as Truck Legends along with 5,400 other program members from around the country. Membership affords you exclusive merchandise, decals, special invites to Chevy events, discounts from various Chevy partners, and more. The Chevy Trucks Centennial Celebration, the culmination of this anniversary campaign, will be held at Texas Motor Speedway on December 16th. The event will allow for fans to experience the latest Chevy products, admire Truck Legends such as Danny Hudson and his C10 that are being showcased, and even the chance to meet NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. One this is for certain though, folks will come from far and wide to see the Chevy truck with over 1 million miles on its odometer! If you're interested in purchasing or leasing a Chevy truck of your own, browse our online inventory and schedule a test drive to feel the power and capability in person!

How to Prep Your Home and Car for the Cold Weather - 11/27/2017

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.,–– Michigan winters can be particularly nasty, and the freezing temperatures we are known to experience can take their toll on your house and your vehicle. There's a number of internal automotive components that can wear down more quickly in the cold. Same goes for your home as well! But thankfully, you can take steps to protect both your house and your ride from winter's inclement weather. Read on learn how to prep your home and car for the cold weather.

    Prep Your Home:

Protect Your Pipes - You do not want to deal with the catastrophe of having frozen pipes that crack and then burst come springtime. To ensure this doesn't happen, disconnect and store outdoor hoses, cover outdoor faucets, and drain the water from any outdoor sprinkler systems. Additionally, make sure to protect any water pipes that are in unheated areas of your home with insulation.

    Check Your Furnace -
You don't want to go through any amount of time this winter without a working furnace, so before the weather gets too cold, test out your furnace to make sure it's running well. Also, to ensure efficiency, we recommend changing your furnace filter right now and then every two to four months until the cold weather subsides.

Prevent Ice Dams - Ice damns are large pieces of ice that build up on the edges of your roof, usually in a gutter, that can seriously damage the structural integrity of your roof. To avoid allowing any ice damns to occur, start by cleaning out your gutters. Then, invest in a de-icing cable system that can be installed on your roof, or purchase an extendable roof rake to use to shovel off the snow that accumulates on your roof so that the ice damns won't begin to form.

Clean and Store Lawn Equipment -
It's important to properly winterize and store your lawn equipment for the winter. Start by emptying the fuel in your equipment, as gasoline can damage fuel lines and other components if it sits there for too long unused. You should also clean off any dirt, grime, oil, or grass that is on your lawn mower, leaf blower, etc.

Seal Doors and Windows - Use caulk to seal around your windows and install weather stripping around doors as needed to help keep the warm air in your house from escaping outside, saving you money on your heating bill.

    Inspect Fireplace and Chimney -
Don't lose any of the warm air in your home by forgetting to close your chimney's flue all the way. Put your hand up your chimney to check, you shouldn't be able to feel any cold air coming down the chimney.

Other Winter Essentials - Make sure you have road salt and shovels to keep your driveway ice and snow-free. Also, a backup generator is a good thing to have in case of emergency or a power outage.

    Prep your Car:

Make an Emergency Kit - Everyone should have a winter emergency kit in their car during these colder months. It should include a first aid kit, jumper cables, emergency cash, flashlight, cell phone charger, and additional cash. Additionally, we recommend that you keep sand/kitty litter and a shovel in your vehicle in case you get stuck in a snowbank.

Check Your Engine Coolant/Antifreeze Levels - These fluids will help keep your engine's radiator from freezing or overheating which is especially important during the winter months when the temperatures drop below freezing. You can pop the hood of your vehicle to check your fluid levels or you can always bring your vehicle into our Service Center to have your levels checked and refilled if need be.

Check Your Tire Pressure and Tread Depth - As we all know, driving in snow and ice can be hazardous. Avoid slipping and sliding on winter roads by keeping your tire pressure at the optimal level and making sure that your tire tread isn't worn down. Bald and under-inflated tires will dramatically reduce your handling on the road, so ensure your safety this winter by either maintaining your tires or purchasing new ones.

Get Your Heating and Ventilation Fixed - Getting the heating and ventilation systems in your vehicle checked and/or fixed is extremely important this time of year. You won't be able to defrost your windshield in the morning so that you can see the road properly, and you'll be unable to warm up the cabin of your vehicle, neither of which are safe things to experience.

For additional tips and information to get your vehicle in top shape before the snow and ice arrive, we recommend reading our Fall Car Care guide to prepare for the coming winter weather.
